Democracy 101

Among the different systems or forms of government, democracy is the most common. In many countries, democracy is the form of their government. For you to understand democracy, know that this form of government allows the citizens to exercise power by voting. Know also that there are different kinds of democracy and it includes direct democracy, representative democracy, constitutional democracy, and Western democracy. As for direct democracy, the citizen’s form a governing body and vote directly while in representative democracy, the citizens elect representatives from among themselves.

Constitutional democracy on the other hand, it refers to the powers of the majority that are exercised within the framework of a representative democracy. And when it comes to Western democracy, it is generally considered to have originated in city-states. You probably have heard of the “Rule of the majority”. This phrase is sometimes referred to as democracy. There are some things which are inherent in democracy and it includes the uncertainty of outcomes. Democracy is said to consist of four key elements.

Democracy has important characteristics. Such characteristics include legal equality, rule of law, and political freedom. The term “democracy” is sometimes used as shorthand for liberal democracy or Western democracy. In terms of the characteristic of democracy, majority rule is often listed. And for the basic feature of democracy, it is all about the capacity of all voters to participate freely in the society which they belong to. Since the ancient times, the term democracy can be traced. In fact, it first appeared in ancient Greece.
